Features
The New Sitting Experience
We didn’t start with a chair design; we started by looking at the unique movements and gestures of the body.
Range of Technology
GREATER RANGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Gesture supports movement between devices and healthy postures when interacting with technology. The Gesture 360 arm moves like the human arm, which allows users to be supported in any position. Arms and shoulders remain supported when texting on a smartphone, typing on a keyboard or swiping on a tablet, helping to prevent “Text Neck™“.
Range of Postures
GREATER RANGE OF POSTURES
The changing nature of work has affected our postures. As work has become more collaborative and mobile our postures have shifted.
Gesture supports the greatest range of postures in three ways: through the back, the seat and the arms. With 3D LiveBack, Gesture changes shape and mimics the natural motion of the spine contouring to the user, creating the deepest recline. Adaptive bolstering allows Gesture’s seat to contour to the size of any user providing customized comfort
Range of Users
GREATER RANGE OF USERS
We know that today’s workplace has to accommodate a wide range of users sizes. Most chairs are only designed to fit one person: the average.
Gesture solves for the broadest range of sizes. Whether large or small, Gesture promises personalized and custom comfort for all users in one simple solution, all while utilizing a minimal footprint.
Headrest
Until now, headrests have largely been an afterthought, but the Gesture headrest is integrated into the design. The design of the Gesture headrest takes into consideration features such as factors head size, neck length and desired range of motion to support a greater range of user sizes.
Through this intentional design, the Gesture headrest not only provides comfort and support, but also offers an unprecedented range of motion. This results in more choice and control over work postures.
Gesture headrest range of motion:
- 5-inch range of height adjustment
- 4 inches of forward and backward pivot movement
- 90° of rotation
Insights
Global Posture Study
To best understand the body at work, we undertook a global posture study on six continents, observing over 2,000 people in a wide range of postures.
We discovered that new technologies combined with new behaviors led to nine new postures that are not adequately addressed by current seating solutions.
Devices
WHAT WE LEARNED
While technology boosts productivity, it can cause pain that disrupts our work, our ability to concentrate, and our creativity.
How might we design an office chair as advanced as today’s technology? A chair that augments our technology?
Users
WHAT WE LEARNED
Today’s global workforce is incredibly diverse, with extreme sizes on the rise. From body size and shape to gender and generation, each play a role in the sitting preference of each individual.
How might we support all users yet meet the postural preferences that exist within the workplace?
Spaces
WHAT WE LEARNED
We see work being done in a greater range of spaces within the office. We’re spending equal amounts of time at our desk as we are in collaborative spaces. We’re sharing desks, where one day a larger person might be using a chair and the next day a much smaller person.
How might we solve for multiple users sitting in multiple spaces throughout a day?
